Certified Public Accountant

University of Iowa accounting students perform exceptionally well on the CPA exam. According to the Candidate Performance on the Uniform CPA Examination publication from the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), our students' first-time pass rate is 80%, which ranks 13th among all larger accounting programs in the United States, second in the Big Ten and best in the state of Iowa for public universities.

In order to become licensed as a CPA, most states require 150 hours of college education and a minimum number of accounting course hours in a variety of topics. Our five-year Professional Program in Accounting (BBA and M.Ac) will help students satisfy the educational requirements for CPA licensure.

Each state has its own educational requirements, so students who are interested in obtaining a CPA license should visit NASBA's website to learn about state-specific educational requirements.
