Judith R. Frank long believed in the value of education and the importance of helping students develop their communication skills. Because of this belief, she and her husband, Harris Frank, made a significant gift to support the Tippie College Business Communications Center enabling it to expand its programming.
The Tippie College listens closely to employers, and one message comes through loud and clear: Businesses need graduates who are clear, effective, and versatile communicators. From writing memos, reports, and proposals to delivering persuasive presentations and closing the deal, communication skills are crucial to success in today's competitive business environment.
"It had become apparent to Judy and me that there are bright students who are entering the workplace with strong technical skills but without the ability to express themselves adequately," Harris Frank said. "We felt that supporting these initiatives in the Tippie College's business communications center would enhance what is already an outstanding undergraduate business program."
The gift from the Franks, longtime supporters of the college, allowed the Frank Business Communications Center to broaden its programming from working primarily on students' written communication skills to providing help with oral presentation skills. The center trains students to analyze their audience, adapt their message, and effectively use visual aids. The center also provides opportunities for international students to improve their pronunciation and conversation skills.
