"I give to Tippie because Tippie has given so much to me. When I first arrived as an assistant professor, I received lots of support and guidance from my faculty colleagues — and I still do everyday. So I am very happy to contribute to the fund honoring retired Professor Warren Boe, who himself gave so much to Tippie and to me."

"Most of my gifts within the Tippie College of Business have been somehow connected with the undergraduate program for which I was responsible for seven years. I have also given to the Frank Communications Center because I believe its function is critical for our students and because it bears my mother's name. I have also given a number of artworks to the college because I think it is important that people who come into the college have wonderful things to see and appreciate the sense of culture. Finally, I have sponsored a number of events in the college over the last few years—particularly those aimed at women in the MBA program. I would just add that my giving is not confined to the College of Business because I think we are an integral part of the whole University of Iowa."

"When our youngest son, Jack, was born with a lung condition, it went undetected for six weeks. An X-ray taken at one hospital revealed an image of a distorted lung lobe that was 'beyond his pediatrician and beyond the doctors at another hospital.' We were told to go straight to the ER at the UIHC and ask for a cardiopulmonary specialist immediately. Jack had a rare lung condition that had caused his upper left lung lobe to inflate to about 10 times its normal size and push his esophagus and heart over to the right side of his body.

"The diagnostic process, surgery, uncertainty of the situation, the long hospital stay and subsequent readmittance and the healing process took a toll on everyone in our family, including our then 2-year old. However, my husband and I felt so fortunate to live so close to such world-class health care resources. Doctors at the UIHC had experience with Jack’s type of lung condition, even though it is a fairly rare disease. The doctors at the UIHC saved Jack’s life.

"Fortunately, our family experienced had a happy ending—Jack suffers no permanent effects of the diseased lung. However, our 15-day hospital stay impacted how we perceive the strain and disruption any hospital stay places on a family—even when the outcome is a good one. We realized very quickly how much we have to be thankful for and have made ourselves available to the Children’s Miracle Network to tell Jack’s story as part of past year’s fundraising efforts. We continue to be a huge fan of the Children’s Hospital at the UIHC and are looking forward to seeing the new Children’s Hospital when it is complete."

"I give to Tippie because I believe in the value of the college’s dual missions of research and education. Education levels the playing field and provides opportunities for individuals to succeed.  Research to understand business, organizations, and the economy are critical for global economic success. Here, we do the research and train the next generation to solve the world’s problems in financially viable ways."

"I give back to support the work of those who have already given so much to me. Without the Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center, the childcare center my children attend would have closed. None of the members who sit on the board have expertise in nonprofit management, but with their help and resources, our center was able to navigate the confusing process of organizing as our own nonprofit corporation."

"I support foundation funds that mean a lot to me personally and where I know my gift will have an impact.

Rhoda Cummings was a friend and coworker and her passing was challenging for me, the staff of the dean’s office, and many in the college. Honoring her memory and helping provide a scholarship to a deserving student is the least I can do.

I am happy to support the newly established Nancy Hauserman Global Experience Fund in honor of Nancy’s upcoming retirement. For the 12 years I have been at Iowa, I have seen Nancy’s impact—from starting the Young Alumni Board and the Honor Code as the Undergrad Program Dean, to establishing leadership programs for our MBAs, to teaching in Italy and Hong Kong. Nancy epitomizes the Tippie statement of “IMPACT,” and this fund will help students get the global experiences they need.

I like to put my money where my heart is—and supporting these causes and others like Hancher or the Tippie Excellence Fund (which helps us launch new initiatives and reach out to our alumni) are some of the reasons why I support Iowa."
