Fees are assessed on the basis of the number of semester hours for which the student registers. Current (2008-09) resident tuition and fees for full-time enrollment (nine or more semester hours) is $3,640.50 per semester; the nonresident fee is $10,081.50. Nonresident students holding assistantships are assessed resident tuition.
The department offers a variety of tuition scholarships, fellowships, and teaching and research assistantships. Most Ph.D. students are supported throughout five years of study. Incoming first-year Ph.D. students in 2009-09 typically received half-time support of $16,300 for the academic year. Contingent on satisfactory academic progress, support continues for subsequent years at similar or higher levels, though the nature of the service required may vary. Financial awards are made on the basis of merit competition.
