  • Brief eligibility review with the program director—Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to have a brief discussion with the director of the Executive MBA Program to get a program overview, verify eligibility, review the application checklist, and have initial questions answered.

  • Application—A completed application is required by the University of Iowa for admission into the Exectutive MBA Program. This PDF form may be completed on your computer, but cannot be saved, so it's recommended that you complete it all at once. (It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.) Once you've completed all the information, you will need to PRINT IT and SIGN IT, then mail it to the address below, or you may scan the completed and signed application and email it to alexander-taylor-1@uiowa.edu.

  • Resume—This document (or equivalent—vitae, professional bio summary) should summarize the applicant's professional history, experience, and timeline.
  • Transcript(s) from Listed Educational Institution(s)—This is required to verify academic eligibility.
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Scores—This helps qualify applicants for the academic rigors and expectations to understand and be successful with course material, classroom discussion, and small-group exercises. This information is requested on the application. A schedule for GMAT testing dates is available—contact the Executive MBA Program office for more information, 877-428-0638.
  • Personal Essay—In 1,200 words (or less), applicants are asked to write an essay about their interest in the Executive MBA Program at the University of Iowa, why they are interested, how this experience will benefit them and/or their sponsoring organization, and how they will be a valuable addition and contributor to the class.
  • Letter of Support from Sponsor—This letter should come from the applicant's employer to demonstrate their understanding of the time commitments the applicant will need to make to successfully complete the Executive MBA Program, and verify any financial support they intend to provide to support the pursuit of an Executive MBA at the University of Iowa. Self-employed applicants may substitute an additional letter of recommendation for this "Letter of Support" if they are self-sponsored. View a sample letter. This letter should be mailed to:

  • Letter of Recommendation (if applicable)—Should a letter of sponsorship/support not be possible, then the applicant must have a letter of recommendation written by a professional colleague (employer, peer, or business acquaintance, etc.) to support the applicant's qualifications and experience for enrollment into the Executive MBA Program at the University of Iowa. This letter should describe how they know the applicant (how long and in what capacity), and why they believe the applicant would be a good candidate for the Executive MBA Program and contact information should it be necessary to follow up with additional questions.   • Brief Interview with Executive MBA Program Director and/or Associate Director—This will be arranged during the application process and may be scheduled for an in-person visit or phone interview depending on the applicant’s availability and circumstances.
