Not everyone is suited for the Executive MBA Program. Some candidates might be more suited to apply for our Full-time MBA Program, or the Program for Professionals and Managers (MBA-PM). If you're unsure which program best suits you, we invite you to browse our website and compare our programs.

Part of the success of Iowa's Executive MBA Program has been based upon the experience and quality of its participants. Once admitted, each student is expected to bring their professional experiences and unique perspectives into classroom discussions and small-group activities. Therefore, admission into the Executive MBA Program will be heavily based upon a candidate's professional background, leadership experience, and their demonstrated skills to manage the rigors of academic course work and requirements. A typical Executive MBA student has at least seven years of business leadership experience.

The following checklist outlines the what's required for admission into the program.

  • A brief eligibility review with the program director (usually a face-to-face discussion or phone interview to verify eligibility and interest)
  • Completed application for admission into the University of Iowa Tippie School of Management (online application)
  • An up-to-date resume
  • Transcript(s) from your listed educational institution(s)
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores
  • Personal essay outlining your desire and intent for an MBA degree from the Tippie School of Management
  • Letter of support/recommendation from your sponsoring organziation (if applicable)
