Admissions

Part of the success of Iowa's Executive MBA Program has been based upon the experience and quality of its participants. Once admitted, each student is expected to bring their professional experiences and unique perspectives into classroom discussions and small group activities.

Therefore admission into the Executive MBA Program will be heavily based upon a candidate's professional background, leadership experience, and their demonstrated skills to manage the rigors of academic coursework and requirements.

A typical Executive MBA student has at least seven years of business leadership experience. Not everyone is suited for the Executive MBAProgram. Some candidates might be more suited to apply for the Full-time MBA Program, or the MBA for Professionals and Managers (MBA-PM). If you're unsure which program best suits you, you may want to compare our programs.

The following checklist outlines the what's required for admission into the program.

  • A brief eligibility review with the program director or associate director (usually a brief phone conversation to verify eligibility and review admission requirements)
  • Completed application for admission into the University of Iowa Tippie School of Management (online application)
  • An up-to-date (within the last 6 months) resume included with the application
  • Transcript(s) from your ALL listed educational institution(s)
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Scores
  • Personal essay that outlines your interest in the program (why you want an MBA), and how your experience will be of value to the class
  • Letter of support/recommendation from your sponsoring organziation (if applicable)
  • If there is no "sponsoring" organization, then submit a letter of recommendation from a colleague, business leader, or previous employer
  • Brief interivew with the program director or associate director
