Six Sigma & Lean Certifications
The Six Sigma and Lean certification programs are administered through the Management Sciences department. Both were developed in consultation with academic and industry leaders in operations management.
- Six Sigma Greenbelt
Students who successfully complete the following courses (grade of B or better) will be awarded a Six Sigma Greenbelt certificate by the University of Iowa:
- 6N:229 Operations Management
- 6K:218 Statistical Methods for Process Improvement
- 6K:296 Six Sigma Project
- 6J:263 Strategic Management of Change
This certificate is available only to students in the SI Academy. 6K:218 must be taken in the first-year spring block as a prerequisite to the Six Sigma Project.
- Gold Certificate in Lean
Students who successfully complete the following courses (grade of B or better) will be awarded a Gold Certificate in Lean by the University of Iowa:
- 6N:229 Operations Management
- 6K:293 Rapid Continuous Improvement
- 6K:291 Strategy Deployment and the Lean Enterprise
- Black Certificate in Lean
Students who successfully complete the following courses (grade of B or better) and additional project work will be awarded a Black Certificate in Lean by the University of Iowa:
- 6N:229 Operations Management
- 6K:293 Rapid Continuous Improvement
- 6K:291 Strategy Deployment and the Lean Enterprise
Additional project work: Complete and document four additional continuous improvement projects. Projects may be completed in conjunction with courses, GA assignments, or extracurriculars. Projects must be reviewed in advance by the SI Academy Faculty Director and adequate documentation of project actions and outcomes must be submitted within 15 days of completion. This includes identification of the current state, development of and activities to implement the future state.
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
The Project Management Professional (PMP) credential recognizes skill in leading and directing project teams. The PMP is the premiere designation for project managers, boosting marketability and earning potential. Earning a PMP requires meeting the certification's requirements; 60 professional development units are required every three years to maintain the credential.
The Strategic Innovation Academy provides a number of reimbursements annually to support students who are interested in obtaining the PMP credential. These are competitive and cover the full cost of the PMP certification exam.
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
Holding a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certification distinguishes you as a expert in streamlined operations. While demonstrating value to employers, the CSCP designation shows expertise in global supply chain management, facilitating supply chain functions, and maximizing the value of ERP systems.
Earning a CSCP requires a bachelor's degree plus two years of related experience. Sustaining the credential requires 75 maintenance points every five years.
