English Language Exam Requirements

TOEFL or IELTS scores are required of all applicants EXCEPT those who were educated solely in English for their undergraduate and/or prior graduate degree.

Applicants from non-English-speaking countries aren't required to take the TOEFL/IELTS if their academic documents confirm that all degree coursework was completed in English.

Internet-based test minimum score 100 Minimum total score 7.0

Paper test minimum score 600  

*All IELTS test-takers will be required to take the on-campus English Proficiency Evaluation.

Criteria for TOEFL/IELTS Waiver

The TOEFL/IELTS can be waived under the following conditions:

  • If you were educated solely in English for your undergraduate and/or prior graduate degree AND your academic documents confirm that all coursework was completed in English.


  • You are a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.

Applicants should note the exemption where indicated in the application.


TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years. Please request an official TOEFL or IELTS report from the testing agency to be sent to the Office of Admissions.

  • Expired scores—Your score will be considered expired if the test was taken more than two years prior to submission of your application. If your score has expired, you must retake the examination and submit the official scores before the application deadline.
