On occasion, I've provided the analogy to my students that life as an MBA is much like life after adding a baby to your family, or climbing Mount Everest; regardless of how much advice you receive on what to expect (solicited or not), it isn't until you're thrust into the experience that you can truly understand and appreciate how it will transform you. It will be rewarding in ways you won't expect, and it will also challenge and stretch you beyond what you may have thought possible. There will be plenty of long days and short nights, situations you won't feel prepared to manage, and at points it is likely you will feel so frustrated or exhausted that you may question whether you have what it takes to succeed. You will grow tremendously as a person, and as you move further through the journey it is only then that you will begin to realize that the experience is a life changer. No amount of advice is adequate preparation, and it's up to you to chart your path to success.
As we watched with pride as our most recent group of Tippie MBA grads traversed the stage in mid May, it was thrilling - as it is each year - to witness how this 21-month journey had transformed each of them. And rewarding for my team—Jana, Tom, Erin, Michel and me—as we are able to see how our uniquely personalized approach has led the way to fantastic job offers at some of the top MBA hiring companies in the US. We stand behind a vision that is all about the individual. And we regularly witness our value proposition, which emphasizes customized support for our students and corporate partners, enabling us to open doors at organizations that haven't historically recruited at Tippie. We no longer operate in a world where recruiting is a one-size-fits-all model; and our team recognizes that the same is true for how companies are sourcing talent. It's all about fit. And because we know our students, we are able to identify and recommend select candidates that best meet the individual needs of an organization.
Our strategy successfully carried us through one of the most devastating economic climates in our nation's history - landing us in the #3 spot among all programs ranked in US News & World Report for our percentage placed within three months of graduation for our 2010 graduating class, and a #1 ranking for highest job placement rate in the U.S. for those ranked by Financial Times. Our graduates also realized an impressive ROI with an average starting salary upon exiting the program that more than doubled the incoming average. In partnership with our students, we've realized placements at firms such as United Airlines, Citigroup, Darden Restaurants, Ford Motor Company, Whirlpool, Gavilon Group, Cognizant, Amazon, Sears Holding Corp, Gallup, Ecolab, State of Wisconsin Investment Board, BMO Capital Markets, and many more. The below placement map gives a broader picture of where Tippie grads have gone within the last two years, and because at Tippie it is truly all about the individual, please follow the links below to hear stories about our students' individual successes.
As we are now actively partnering with our 2012 and 2013 graduating classes seeking full-time roles and summer internships, please consider thinking of Tippie for any relevant opportunities at your organization.
We have several talented students who began impressive positions this summer. Take a moment to read some of the highlights from our 2011 graduates.
We've created an Interactive Tippie Employment map that shows where our 2011 interns landed. The map also includes 2011 full-time employment, and both interns and full-time hires from 2010! Click the map below to the see a full, interactive version.
