Graduate Marketing Association (GMA)


Provide opportunities for graduate students in the Tippie School of Management at the University of Iowa to enrich their studies in the field of marketing.


The GMA strives to enhance the full-time MBA experience in the areas of Professional Development & Networking, Education & Outreach, and Student Life.

Our vision is to expose MBA students to marketing topics, professionals, and career paths by organizing educational events on and away from campus.


Joe Woodward - President

Academy/track: Marketing

Prior career: Insurance Underwriter, The IMT Group
What interests you about marketing?   What makes marketing so engaging is the challenge to combine hard and soft skills in order to fully understand the end user. To succeed, marketers need the quantitative skills to gain consumer insights and the creativity to take advantage of these opportunities.
Interests: Large amounts of coffee, running, cycling, traveling, movies, Hawkeye sports and the Green Bay Packers.

Brendan Daily - Vice President of Events

Prior career: Global Marketing Specialist, Principal Global Investors
What interests you about marketing?
I love marketing because of the engagement with your end consumer. Discovering information about customers and their needs is vital to the success of any business, placing marketing on the front lines. In today's world, constantly changing technology is arming (and challenging) marketers with more tools than ever before. It's an exciting time to be in this field!
Interests: Movies, television, video games, comic books, music (basically anything pop culture), technology, Chicago sports, and drinking Mountain Dew.

Dan Bereiter - Vice President of Finance

Academy/track: Marketing, Finance minor
Undergraduate institution:
University of Wisconsin, Mechanical Engineering
Prior career: Field Support Engineer, Rockwell Automation
What interests you about marketing? Product management.
Interests: Skiing, sailing, beer, home brewing and music.


Fall Events

Annual Fall Trip
The GMA has made recent trips to Des Moines and Minneapolis with visits to companies such as Wells Fargo, Best Buy, and Kum & Go. The trips typically include Tippie Table Talks – a valuable opportunity to meet recent Tippie MBA graduates.

Bone Marrow Marketing Campaign
GMA plans to launch a week-long marketing campaign in fall 2011 to recruit University of Iowa students, staff, and faculty to register for the bone marrow database. This is a noble philanthropic cause and will also provide our students with first-hand experience in designing a marketing event.

Spring Events

Annual Spring Trip
In recent years, marketing students visited Kansas City and Chicago. There, visits to companies such as United Airlines, Boulevard Brewing Company, and Sprint allowed students to learn more about marketing careers and hear from Tippie alumni.

Marketing Lunch & Learn
The GMA regularly hosts events over the lunch hour to discuss relevant, current marketing topics. Recent lunch and learns have explored subjects such as digital marketing and Super Bowl advertising.
