What Past Participants Say
Working at Henley Media Group provided me with an invaluable experience that I will never forget. Having never worked in an office setting before, I had no idea what to expect, but everyone at Henley was as friendly as could be and made my assimilation into their culture very easy. I was specifically assigned to work for YourSurgeryAbroad.com, an online database of international health care providers aimed at the medical tourism industry. I was given enough responsibility at the start to make me feel like I belonged, but not too much responsibility that I would feel overwhelmed.
My main tasks at first were to cross-reference our database of health care providers with the providers accredited by the Joint Commission International and to find 10 news articles to summarize and post to our website. After gaining some confidence in my work, I was given more responsibility in my daily tasks. I wrote a public relations release, communicated with potential clients via social networking, and wrote the YourSurgeryAbroad.com profile for the Henley Media Group website.
Although I could have learned the same things doing an internship back in the States, I would not have had the same enriching experience. I routinely worked with not only British people, but those from Australia and Italy, and interacted with people from Spain, Argentina, and Brazil among others. That's an experience I cannot get in Iowa and will make me a much better professional going forward. In a global business market that we live in, experience working with many different cultures is priceless and an experience I would recommend to anyone.
