Mel Haught and the Pella Leadership Team
Pella Corporation was founded in 1925 as the Rolscreen Company and today is recognized as one of the world's leading manufacturers of premium-quality windows and doors. The company changed its name to Pella Corporation in 1992 and offers a full range of residential and commercial products, including premium-quality windows, entry door systems, storm doors, and patio doors. The leadership team received the Oscar C. Schmidt Iowa Business Leadership Award in 2005.
Early in its history, Pella Corporation built a dedicated national sales and service organization for its products. In 1992, the company entered the national retail market with ProLine® wood windows and patio doors that are distributed by top U.S. and Canadian building-material retail stores. In 2001, Pella® Design Centers opened exclusively at Lowe's. In addition to ProLine® products, the company manufactures Architect Series® and Designer Series® wood products, ThermaStar by Pella® vinyl products, and Pella® Impervia® products, made of Duracast® an advanced alternative material.
For seven consecutive years, Pella has been honored by Fortune magazine as one of the nation's "100 Best Companies to Work For." Pella earned this recognition for providing exceptional benefits development opportunities and a quality work environment. Pella Corporation is among a limited number of manufacturers to be included on Fortune's list.
Pella Corporation is known for embracing Lean manufacturing principles throughout the organization. The company contributes to the communities where team members live and work and encourages volunteerism. It promotes the Character Counts! program in area schools, and the character-building philosophy permeates every level of the operation.
Mel Haught, the former Pella Corporation president and CEO, received a B.S. from Youngstown State University in 1968. He taught for a year before working the next 14 years at General Motors Packard Electric Division. That was followed with several senior-level assignments at Molex Incorporated.
Haught joined Pella in 1991 as vice president of manufacturing and assumed the role of senior vice president of operations in 1996. He was appointed to serve on Pella Corporation's board of directors in May 1999. In 2000, he was appointed to the position of executive vice president and Pella Division president and COO. In 2002, he was named Pella Corporation president and COO, a position he held until he was named president and CEO later that year. He retired in November of 2009.
Haught is a 2002 graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
