Meet Our Faculty

The Browns

Amy Kristof-Brown

What are your research areas? Person-environment fit, or the ways in which people are more compatible in some work environments than in others. I pay particular attention to how fit influences hiring decisions, and also team functioning.

Did you work in industry before teaching? I've consulted with a variety of organizations, ranging from a small chain of coffee shops to the Department of Justice.

What do you love most about the University of Iowa or living in Iowa? That because of the lack of traffic, I can get more activity into a day than my colleagues back on the East Coast.

What are your hobbies or what do you like to do on weekends? For the most part, Ken (M&O faculty member Ken Brown is my husband) and I drive our children around from activity to activity. I also enjoy scrapbooking and fundraising for our daughters' schools.

Do you have children? Two lovely girls.

Do you have pets? Lola! Our wonderful hypoallergenic min-Schnauzer. She was named after the character in "Charlie & Lola"—one of our favorite BBC cartoons.

What are some of your favorite books? I read avidly, but a wide range of things. I love biographies, faux histories (i.e., Girl with a Pearl Earring), books with a bit of the supernatural (i.e., Time Travelor's Wife, Her Fearful Symmetry, Harry Potter), all of Sophie Kinsella's books (particularly the Shopaholic series and Twenties Girl) and anything with a happy ending.

What are some of your favorite movies? No time for movies now, but When Harry Met Sally is my all-time favorite.

Where were you born? Where have you lived besides Iowa? Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. I've lived in Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, and Iowa.

Countries visited? England, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, and Canada.

Anything else you want to share? I hate to fly, so if you want to know how to get anywhere by rail, just ask me!
