Information Systems and Optimization Research (ISOR) Laboratory

The ISOR lab is devoted to research conducted by students and faculty from the Tippie College's Department of Management Sciences. This laboratory is dedicated to providing a synergistic atmosphere that supports, encourages, and facilitates collaborative research and learning.

Located in S204 PBB (Phone: 319-335-0972), this laboratory contains six dual-core Linux workstations, two Windows PCs, and two printers. The machines are connected to the Internet at 100 Mbps by a 12-port switch.

Faculty research conducted in this laboratory tends to fall within certain categories. These topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Machine Learning/Data Mining
  • Computational Optimization
  • Operations Research
  • Transportation
  • Information Retrieval
  • Health Informatics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Business Analytics

Information on current research projects and publications is available by reviewing the Faculty and Faculty Research pages or by visiting our faculty’s personal webpages linked below:

Our Ph.D. students are actively engaged in research, which is frequently highlighted on their own webpages:

Distinguished Alumni

In addition to the numerous Management Sciences students listed on our Recent Graduates page, other noted alumni who have used ISOR include:

  • Chih-Lin Chi, Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard University
  • Sean Forman, Founder and President,
  • Kyoung-Mi Lee, Assistant Professor, Duksung Women's University (Korea)

Neon HPC Cluster

The Management Sciences faculty and students also have access to the University’s new Neon cluster.  The Neon HPC cluster is the second collaborative cluster system on the University of Iowa campus. The system brings together twenty-five groups from seven different colleges to build a shared campus resource.  This resource enables faculty to perform tasks such as parallel computing.
