Field Immersion Projects

We welcome company inquiries into the Marketing Institute. If you are a business interested in participating in a field immersion project, please contact us at least one month prior to the start of each semester and provide a general outline of the issue and other information on the Field Project Request form. We are always seeking robust projects with dynamic organizations.

Field Immersion Project Criteria

To prepare students to work in the competitive field of marketing, a major cornerstone of the Marketing Institute is to offer field immersion projects to its student teams. Field immersion projects should focus on the many aspects of marketing, particularly developing critical-thinking and problem-solving skills of the students. Throughout the project process, students will work under the close guidance of the director of the Marketing Institute and faculty members to translate project findings into actionable results and recommendations for the client.

When committing to be a partner in a field immersion project for the Marketing Institute, client organizations are expected to adhere to policies that ensure a successful experience for both the students and the client.

For field immersion projects, the client will identify a product, service category (either new or an innovation to an existing product/service), or a consumer-based research issue on which the student team will work. The client should provide a general outline of the issue to the director of the Marketing Institute within one month prior to the start of the semester. Upon review, the client and director will discuss the business issue and initial project expectations and, if the project is accepted, a confidential agreement will be signed.

The Marketing Institute strives to train and develop core skills required by today's employers. Therefore, we strive for field immersion projects that are robust in nature involving elements such as:

  • Critical thinking
  • Creative problem solving
  • Data analysis (primary and/or secondary sources)
  • Branding
  • Market and/or sales strategy
  • Market research (consumer based)
  • New product (ideation, research, or test market)
  • Category management
  • Brand, product, price, channel, or review/strategy
  • Advertising, social media review/strategy
  • Competitive intelligence (competitive research; SWOT mapping)

Summer Internships

We foster internship opportunities to further enhance students' learning and business experience. If you are interested in providing summer internship opportunities for students of the Marketing Institute, we're happy to arrange at your convenience on-campus interviews at our office. Or, if you prefer, we can arrange for student travel to your place of business.
