Candidate, Leadership Development Program, AEGON
Rob Johnston got all that he wanted from his Tippie MBA.
“My MBA degree helped round out my very technical and sales focused career history. The primary driver for my MBA was a desire to gain financial and strategic training to further advance my career. And I got it at Tippie.”
Rob’s undergraduate degree was in engineering, but he spent most of his career in technology consulting, account management, and client support roles. Prior to earning his MBA degree, he was the Director of Client Services for an enterprise software company based in Denver, Colorado.
While earning his MBA, a particularly valuable learning opportunity came for Rob through his involvement in the Business Solutions Center at Tippie. Rob immediately applied the skills he learned in class to real-time corporate problems.
“Working under demanding deadlines—plus the fact that major decision makers are really invested in our project—helps to recreate the pressures of a real-world consulting environment.”
He credits both the skills he gained working with the Business Solutions Center and his Tippie MBA degree for landing a candidacy in the Leadership Development Program at AEGON. During his two-year rotational program, Rob has already worked on a Six Sigma project in product development to reduce costs, increase productivity and increase capacity for new and updated product deliveries. He is currently working on a project to consolidate document management and delivery technologies in an effort to reduce overall costs to AEGON.
“The classroom training, access to world-class professors, team building exercises, and leadership opportunities presented by the program provided the foundation I was seeking to advance my career.”
