Young Alumni Create Scholarships in Tippie College
For many students, paying for college is challenging. But, thanks to the efforts of two young Iowa alumni, a few more students will receive assistance in paying their tuition bill. Jim and Emily Coble of Tampa, Fla., have established the Jim & Emily Coble Business Scholarship and the 13 Fishing Business Scholarship. Each scholarship is merit-based for students in the College of Business. The 13 Fishing Business Scholarship has a preference for someone who "respects the outdoor environment and interacts through activities such as fishing, hunting, camping, and community work."
The desire to provide support to an outdoorsperson comes from Jim’s successful business, 13 Fishing. Emily received her B.S. in radiation sciences from Iowa in 2008. Jim received his BBA in management and marketing in 2004 and went on to work in a number of roles for Pure Fishing. He eventually left to start his own fishing supply company, DQC International, and created its signature brand, 13 Fishing.
13 Fishing utilizes innovative technologies to develop equipment that perform well for their customers. The company provides equipment for all types of fishing, whether it is ice fishing, freshwater fishing, or saltwater fishing. Information on the company is available at www.13fishing.com.
A native of Davenport, Jim has been back on campus, talking to students in the Bedell Entrpreneurship Learning Laboratory (BELL) and in Dave Collins's Professional Preparation in Marketing class. We salute Jim and Emily's dedication to their alma mater and to the future success of Iowa business students. They are examples of how alumni of all ages can have an impact on the Tippie College of Business.
Support for the Tippie College of Business and its programs comes through the UI Foundation, the University of Iowa's preferred route for charitable donations. Information on supporting the Tippie College of Business is available at www.givetoiowa.org/business.
