New Speaker Announced for Economic Forecast Event Oct. 25

Economic forecaster Robert G. Dederick, head of RGD Economics, will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the University of Iowa. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Brian Wesbury, the previously scheduled speaker, had to cancel.

Hosted by the UI's John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) and Iowa State Bank & Trust Company, the free presentation is from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will be held in the second floor ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union.

Before coming to RGD Economics, he was executive vice president and chief economist at the Northern Trust Company, Chicago.

From May 1981 until September 1983, Dederick was, first, assistant secretary and, then, under secretary of commerce for economic affairs at the Department of Commerce. In that capacity, he oversaw the department's statistical agencies and was responsible for its economic forecasting and domestic policy analysis.

Earlier, he served as economic research manager for New England Mutual Life Insurance Company in Boston. He also taught economics at Harvard, Cornell and Boston universities. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Dederick graduated from Harvard University, where he received his bachelor's, masters, and doctorate degrees.

Dederick is a member of the Congressional Budget Office's Panel of Economic Advisers; fellow and former president of the National Association of Business Economists; member and past chairman, Conference of Business Economists; and member, International Conference of Commercial Bank Economists. In 1987, he was granted the William F. Butler Memorial Award for "Excellence in Business Economics."
