Ingram Named Associate Dean for The Undergraduate Business Program

Beth Ingram Beth Ingram, chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Iowa, has been named the next associate dean for the undergraduate program at the university's Henry B. Tippie College of Business.

Ingram's appointment will become effective July 1, 2006. Ingram will replace Nancy Hauserman, who has been associate dean since 1999 and will return to a full-time teaching position on the faculty.

"I'm excited about the opportunities this presents because I think the undergraduate program is poised to be one of the most significant undergraduate academic programs offered at the university," said Ingram. "Dean Hauserman will leave the program in a very strong position, and I hope to expand on what she's built to enhance learning and career opportunities for undergraduate business students."

Ingram has taught at the University of Iowa since 1988, after teaching for two years at Cornell University. She earned her bachelor's degree from UI in 1981 and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1986. She has received numerous fellowships and awards for her economics research and has served as editor of two scholarly journals. She previously served as the director of Iowa's Institute for Economic Research and currently holds the Michael Sandler Faculty Fellowship.

"Beth Ingram is a wonderful appointment for the business school," said Gary Fethke, dean of the Tippie College of Business. "She is an outstanding teacher and innovative researcher, and she is deeply dedicated to undergraduate education."

Hauserman and Ingram have begun working together to ensure a smooth and orderly transition in the department. As associate dean for the undergraduate program, Ingram will oversee the department's day-to-day operations and participate in planning long-term strategy. Among the issues she will manage are curriculum, admissions, enrollment, career services and academic advising.

Students in the Tippie Undergraduate Program can receive a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in one of six areas including accounting, economics, finance, management and organizations, management information systems, and marketing. In addition, the College provides a number of specialized institutes and certificates for students interested in entrepreneurship, international business, investment banking, and risk management and insurance.
