Accounting PhD Student Receives Deloitte & Touche Dissertation Fellowship

John McInnis John McInnis, a PhD student in accounting, is one of 10 students nationwide to receive a $25,000 Deloitte & Touche Dissertation Fellowship this year.

The fellowship provides financial support to outstanding doctoral students in accounting as they complete their course work and dissertations. Up to 10 students are selected to be Deloitte Fellows each year. Colleges and universities may nominate only one student for the award each year. About 100 universities participated in this year's fellowship competition.

McInnis received bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated first in his undergraduate class of 700 accounting majors. In addition, he received the National AICPA Elijah Sells Gold Medal Award for receiving the highest score in the nation among more than 10,000 people who took the May 2002 Uniform CPA exam. Prior to beginning doctoral studies at Iowa, he worked as an auditor for Ernst & Young in Houston.
