UI Pomerantz Center Hosts Health, Science and Biotech Career Fair
The fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room C310 of the Pomerantz Center on the UI campus. The Center is holding the fair to show students the many opportunities at health care, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and research organizations in Iowa and beyond.
"For employers, the fair shows that the UI is a resource for qualified and talented job candidates who have skills in the life and health sciences areas," said Angi Schumacher, director of marketing and public relations at the Center.
Undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students majoring in biology, chemistry, environmental science, exercise science, geology, health and sport studies, health promotion, leisure studies, microbiology, physics, and/or any health/science major interested in working in a lab or research setting should attend the fair. Students can also explore internships and volunteer opportunities in these fields.
Employers attending the fair include: Kemin Industries in Des Moines; Integrated DNA Technologies in Coralville; Streck in Omaha, Neb.; Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Mass.; CNA Corporation in Alexandria, Va.; the UI's Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing; and the UI Carver College of Medicine. UI Hospitals and Clinics Volunteer Services and the U.S. Peace Corps will be offering volunteer positions.
This is the first fair the Center has hosted specifically focusing on health, science, and biotechnology careers, though employers have been included in other larger fairs and some have recruited on campus in the past, Schumacher said.
The Center will host a seminar on Feb. 20 at 1:30 p.m. on resumes and curriculum vitae, and mock interview sessions on Feb. 21 to prepare for the fair. Employers will conduct on-campus interviews Feb. 23.
