Tippie College Honors Gary Fethke at May 3 Reception
RSVPs are requested for this event, which will provide the public an opportunity to acknowledge Fethke's tenure as dean of the Tippie College of Business from 1994 to 2006. Fethke had been planning to step down from his position as dean and return to the Tippie faculty but has accepted the request from the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, to serve as interim president once President David Skorton leaves for his new post at Cornell.
The reception will provide a casual forum for people who wish to visit with Fethke before he leaves his post as dean. To attend, RSVP to 319-335-0862 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the fourth floor of the Pappajohn Business Building.
The Tippie College is also commemorating Fethke's time as dean by gathering people's thoughts, good wishes and photographs, which will be compiled into a book for his review.
In his tenure as dean, Fethke has overseen many changes and improvements in business education at Iowa. Under his leadership, the college developed a number of student-centered initiatives that are focused on student internships, job placement and business development. Those include the Hawkinson Institute of Business Finance, the Vaughan Institute of Risk Management and Insurance, the Frank Business Communications Center and the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center.
In addition, the college has created outstanding facilities for students ranging from those on the UI Campus including the Pappajohn Business Building, the Pomerantz Center and the Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory to the facilities utilized by the MBA-PM program in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Newton and the Quad Cities. The Tippie MBA has expanded internationally in Hong Kong and Beijing and has consistently placed in numerous international rankings.
