Ford Appointed as IC Economic Development Coordinator

The City of Iowa City appointed Wendy Ford as its new economic development coordinator last week — a position triggered by the resignation of Steve Nasby, the city’s former community and economic development coordinator, last March.

In a departure from Mr. Nasby’s previous responsibilities, Ms. Ford will solely be responsible for city’s economic development. The Iowa City City Council voted in March to create a new and more focused full-time position in lieu of having one person responsible for both community and economic development in the area.

The Iowa City native served 11 years, from 1981 to 2001, as the executive director of the Iowa City/Coralville Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and oversaw the CVB’s work during its transition from sharing administrative functions with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce to it becoming its own entity as a tourism agency and welcome center in Coralville.

She also served as marketing director for two years at the UI Tippie School of Management Career Services and as an adjunct instructor for two years in the UI Tippie College of Business.
