Accounting Doctoral Student Named Deloitte & Touche Fellow

Rong Zhao, a Tippie College of Business doctoral student in accounting, has received a $25,000 Deloitte & Touche Dissertation Fellowship that provides financial support to outstanding doctoral students in accounting as they complete their course work and dissertations.

Zhao is studying empirical capital markets research in accounting, such as the role of accounting information in asset pricing and corporate financing decisions. She earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Peking University in Beijing and her master's in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Before joining the Iowa doctoral program, she was a tax accountant for RIA in Dallas, a tax research and software firm and business unit of the Thomson Corp. In addition, she was a tax accountant for Rubin, Brown, Gornstein & Co. in St. Louis.

Up to 10 students are selected to be Deloitte Fellows, and colleges and universities may nominate only one student for the award each year. This marks the second year in a row that a Tippie doctoral student has been named a Deloitte Fellow. Last year John McInnis was one of 10 students nationwide to receive the award.
