It might seem counterintuitive that the best way for a local investor to realize the full value of his investment in an ethanol plant is to have the facility big enough to be listed as publicly traded stock. JOHN SOLOW, an economist at the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa, says there might be advantages to corporate ownership of ethanol plants.
