Des Moines Business Leaders To Discuss Entrepreneurialism in Iowa

The University of Iowa's Des Moines Center is sponsoring an entrepreneurial speaker series next week featuring three prominent Des Moines-area business leaders discussing how to build a business in Iowa.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for alumni and undergraduates of the university to get helpful advice and tips from extraordinary professionals," said Cindy Meis, associate director of alumni career services and networks at the University of Iowa's Pomerantz Career Center. The events are also open to the public and admission is free. All events will be held in Room 301 of the Pappajohn Education Center, 1200 Grand Ave., in Des Moines.

  • Frank Russell, CEO of GeoLearning, Inc., will present "Entrepreneurship: A Great Opportunity for Iowa" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28. A reception begins at 6:30 p.m.
  • Zac Voss, University of Iowa aumnus and owner of a Red Bull beverage distributorship, will present "Entrepreneurship: The Mindset," at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1. A reception will begin at 6 p.m. Voss graduated from the UI with a bachelor of business administration degree in 2000. At 22 and during his senior year, he started a distributing company that won the Iowa distribution contract for Red Bull energy drink, making him the youngest owner of a Red Bull distributorship in the United States. The company has grown and now employs more than 25 full-time workers in Iowa and Illinois. This event is co-presented by the UI Alumni Association and reservations are required.   • Leisa Fox, vice president for membership for the Iowa Association of Business and Industry, will present "Why Iowa?" at 12:15 p.m. Friday, March 2. A reception begins at 11:45 p.m.
