Entrepreneurial Center Boot Camp Offers Training in Starting a Business

Aspiring entrepreneurs can learn how to start a business through a short-course of quick sessions in the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center's (JPEC) Entrepreneurship Boot Camp on Friday, Dec. 7.

This intense, half-day program is designed for UI faculty and graduate students, as well as leaders of new and emerging technology companies in the area. Participants learn key concepts in entrepreneurship in a rapid format through four back-to-back seminar sessions.

The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Kelch Conference Room in the Carver Biomedical Research Building. Admission is free. For more information or to register, visit the JPEC Web site.

The sessions include:

• Strategic business planning: an overview of business plans and the planning process, how a plan is put together and how it used to raise capital.
• Market assessment: a discussion of how to evaluate the market potential for new and emerging technologies.
• Funding opportunities: an overview of the process to acquire early stage capital for new and emerging technology ventures.
• Intellectual property strategy: a discussion of key intellectual property issues facing inventors, researchers and technology-based companies.
