Small Business Center Offers Seminars On Taxes, QuickBooks
Don Burr from the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance will present the small business tax series, which begins Tuesday, Jan. 8 with a session on "Sales, Use and Local Option Taxes." The series continues on Tuesday evenings and includes "Business Expenses and Deductions" on Tuesday, Jan 15, "Reporting Sole Proprietor Income" on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and "Payroll and Employment Taxes" on Tuesday, Jan. 29. An additional sales tax seminar is planned Wednesday, Jan. 16 for those in the construction or related businesses.
Attendees may attend all or any of the seminars, which are $20 each. Each session will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room S401 of the Pappajohn Business Building, located at Jefferson and Clinton Streets in Iowa City.
The SBDC and Clifton Gunderson, P.L.C. certified public accountants are offering a hands-on workshop Thursday, Jan. 17 about the QuickBooks for Small Business accounting software program.
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in Room C231, a computer lab in the Pappajohn Business Building. Cost for the workshop is $125; seating is limited.
Participants will be shown how to create and customize forms, financial reports and account charts using the software, which can also be used to set up vendor, inventory and customer lists. Small businesses can use QuickBooks as a payroll processing system to issue checks and create tax forms.
