Tippie Faculty Receive Teaching Awards
John Spitzer, Department of Finance, is this year's recipient of the Collegiate Teaching Award. The award represents the highest honor a college bestows on its faculty for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Spitzer is a clinical professor of finance at the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the UI. He is also the treasurer for the Eastern Iowa Angel Investors LLC, a group of more than 20 individual investors who have pooled their funds for business investment. Management of the funds and the investment decisions are accomplished as a group, following a series of internally adopted procedures and guidelines. Before joining the UI in 1995, Spitzer was a vice president at Salomon Brothers Inc.; vice president at Fannie Mae; senior economist at the Federal Reserve Board; and vice president and managing director at the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.
