SWAT Team Offers Tutoring, Academic Success Workshops
The University of Iowa has a new Study, Workshops, and Tutoring (SWAT) Team to help undergraduate students in key introductory courses.
The program offers free, drop-in, group tutoring for six different courses this semester, as well as general academic success workshops. The Pomerantz Career Center hosts the tutoring sessions in Room C310 from 6-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday evenings.
Tutoring is available for Elementary Psychology, Introduction to American Politics, Introduction to Environmental Science, Introductory Animal Biology, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics. Students who performed well in previous classes will serve as tutors.
Workshops start Tuesday, Feb. 1, and continue on a weekly basis, offered in C230 Pomerantz Center. Topics include time management and organization skills, test-taking skills, overcoming procrastination, stress management, and strategies to enhance memory. Organized by the University College, Academic Advising Center, Pomerantz Career Center, and the University Counseling Service, SWAT is part of a UI effort help retain students who may need assistance in completing key introductory courses in order to succeed and excel in their intended majors.
