Ohlmann Wins Elevator Pitch Competition
Professor Jeffrey Ohlmann won $5,000 in seed capital for his entry in the campuswide Elevator Pitch Competition that was open to all University of Iowa faculty, staff, graduate students, and UI Research Park startups. Professor Ohlmann "pitched" the idea of developing decision support software to assist the drafting of sports fans' fantasy football, baseball, and basketball teams. The software, currently implemented as an iPhone application, uses sophisticated analytical methods to simulate and optimize drafting decisions. Ohlmann and his business partners plan to invest the seed capital in their company, Optilytics LLC, to facilitate a product launch in spring 2011.
