'Beard-off' to Raise Money for Microloan Program
A Tippie MBA student group is going to see how long they can go without shaving in order to raise money for a microloan program.
Jon Finley, a second year student in the Tippie College of Business MBA program and president of the Net Impact student group, came up with the idea to take a simple contest and use it as a fundraiser for a good cause. The group's mission is to promote corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability in business.
The Beard-off contest will kick-off from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in Room 425 of the UI Pomerantz Center. The contest will last four weeks long and end on Dec. 8. Any faculty, staff, student, or members of the general public are welcome to participate in this event.
It's the first year for the Beard-off, but Finley hopes it will attract more than 40 participants. They also hope to raise about $1,500 for their philanthropy. Microloans are typically $25 and the microloan program helps loan people money in developing countries so they can start their own business.
