Author Susan Scott Brings 'Fierce Conversations' to UI Sept. 26
Scott will share these insights as part of a free lecture, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 in 100 Phillips Hall on the University of Iowa campus. The lecture is co-sponsored by the student chapter of the American Marketing Association at the UI's Henry B. Tippie College of Business and Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City.
In the lecture and workshop for students and local business professionals, Scott will cover seven principles as described in her book to achieve authentic, inspiring conversations at work and at home. "Fierce Conversations," published by Viking and released to bookstores Sept. 16, is a mix of practical advice, stories from the front lines of companies such as AT&T Wireless and Boeing Employees Credit Union, and personal life challenges, as well as "tools" to help initiate the process.
In the wake of the summer's corporate scandals, Scott will discuss how a "Corporate Integrity Scan," can help a company check its values against its current operations. Scott's experience has shown her that when corporations, as well as individuals are out of sync with their mission, trouble will not be far behind. Similarly, she will discuss how a "Mineral Rights" exploration can help another person get to the most fundamental and often most avoided issues, and work through the implications, the hoped for outcomes, and a plan for action.
Scott has developed an international consulting practice through her firm, Fierce Conversations, Inc., which provides workshops, leadership development programs and coaching for CEOs and senior executives. For 14 years, she ran think tanks and seminars for business leaders through The Executive Committee (TEC) International. See www.fierceconversations.com for more information.
