Iowa City Student Wins $10K GoDaddy Scholarship
A University of Iowa college student was one of 10 students around the country to win a $10,000 scholarship from GoDaddy.com.
Tyler Finchum, a student at the University of Iowa, won $10,000 toward tuition and supplies after submitting an essay describing how the Internet or other technology helped him and how he envisioned benefiting from technology in the future.
Finchum and the nine others were selected from a pool of more than 2,500 applications, GoDaddy said.
"I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit," Finchum's essay read, in part. "Growing up on a small farm in rural America made it difficult for me to satisfy my entrepreneurial bug. The Internet proved to be my salvation. Farm Manuals Fast (www.FarmManualsFast.com) is an online business that I created as a junior in high school and still run today."
This is the third year for the GoDaddy.ME scholarship program.
"I have a ton of respect for the students who applied for this scholarship because they represent the spirit of innovation," Blake Irving, GoDaddy CEO, said in a press release. "These are students who want to change the world, and instead of just talking about it or waiting for someone else to get involved, they are moving forward to build something themselves right now."
GoDaddy is a domain name and webhosting provider.
