Commencement Ceremonies December 20-21

The Tippie College of Business and Tippie School of Management will honor December 2013 graduates during commencement events this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20-21.

Tippie College of Business School of Management MBA graduation celebration

Friday, Dec. 20, 4:30 p.m., Coralville Marriott Hotel and Convention Center

Featured speaker will be Marie Ziegler, vice president and deputy financial officer for Deere & Company. Tippie College of Business Dean Sarah Fisher Gardial will confer the degrees.

Graduate College commencement

Friday, Dec. 20, 7 p.m., Carver-Hawkeye Arena

John Keller, associate provost for graduate education and Graduate College dean, will offer a brief introduction. UI President Sally Mason will confer the degrees, while Robert Downer, a member of the Iowa Board of Regents, and Hannah Walsh, a UI junior and student member of the Iowa Board of Regents, will attend as special guests.

Undergraduate commencement ceremony

Includes students from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Tippie College of Business, University College, and the Bachelor of Science degree candidates in the Carver College of Medicine.

Saturday, Dec. 21, 9 a.m., Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Sarah Fisher Gardial, dean of the Tippie College of Business, and Joe Kearney, associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will recommend degrees for conferral to UI President Sally Mason. Business graduate Jordan Brauns will be the student speaker.

Family and friends unable to attend the December ceremonies have several options for watching graduates participate.

The Graduate College and Tippie College of Business ceremonies will be streamed live on the web at They’ll also be posted on the university’s YouTube channel within 24 hours.

Ceremonies at Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be broadcast live for area audiences via UITV (channel info here). Ceremonies will be rebroadcast on UITV within 24 hours. UITV also offers DVD copies of previous commencement ceremonies.

Commencement events are open to the public, but traffic near facilities—particularly Carver-Hawkeye Arena—may be heavy. Doors open an hour prior to start time.

Carver-Hawkeye guests with disabilities or limited mobility can part in lot 46 adjacent the arena, provided they have state-issued disabled parking permits. Guests with limited mobility can access the Feller Club Room with up to two companions or view the ceremony from the upper concourse level.
