Tippie Magazine Receives American Advertising Award

The Tippie College’s alumni magazine received a silver award in this year’s American Advertising Awards competition. It was among nearly two dozen awards that the University of Iowa and the UI Foundation received in this year’s competition.

Tippie Magazine received the silver award in competition that recognizes creative excellence in advertising and promotional materials. Contributing to the magazine are Lesanne B. Fliehler, director of publications at Tippie, and the design firm WDG Communications.

Among the other awards were:

  • The University of Iowa Foundation’s “We Are Phil” campaign received Best of Show honors. The campaign promotes philanthropy among UI faculty and staff, and it also earned Best of Category and Gold awards.
  • UI Student Life Marketing + Design received a Gold award for the Art & Life in Africa website.
  • Silver awards were also given to University Communications and Marketing/Admissions for the UI undergraduate viewbook and recruitment package and Herky on campus photos; UI Health Care Marketing and Communications for Medicine Iowa magazine, “Dexter newspaper advertising, “Dexter’s Story” TV spot and UI Children’s Hospital infomercial, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit campaign, and “Sound Silence” illustration; UI Student Life Marketing + Design for Admissions presentation room, president’s holiday card and website, and Latino/a Heritage Month logo; UI Foundation 2013 annual report website; College of Education brand and identity guide; and School of Music’s Iowa Music magazine.
  • Sondra Cue, a designer with University Communication and Marketing, was named Service Person of the Year for her volunteer contributions to the local American Advertising Federation chapter.
