Women and Leadership Conference Set for Sept. 13
"Living the Life of a Leader: A Work in Progress," will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in Room W401, the MidAmerican Energy Colloquium of the John Pappajohn Business Building.
The conference will begin with a continental breakfast followed by a kick-off speech by Dr. Carol Scott-Conner, head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The keynote luncheon speaker will be Ruth R. Harkin, senior vice-president of United Technologies Corporation. The topic of her discussion is "Globalization and Leadership: Lessons Learned."
The day will also include small-group breakout sessions led by area business leaders, focusing on entrepreneurship experiences, volunteerism, balancing work and life, and lessons learned from mistakes.
The students organizing the conference have invited the speakers to share their experiences in leadership, giving attendees inspirational tools to pursue their goals.
"This conference will be a time of learning about yourself and other successful women, sharing experiences, and meeting new people," said Agnes Wee, president of Women in Business. "This is a great opportunity to learn and explore your leadership potential to the fullest."
"We all fill many roles in our lives and our days are always busy; rarely do we take time out to focus on own development and interests," said Jennifer Pithan, president of Graduate Women in Business. "This conference provides a great opportunity to listen to leaders and it hopefully will inspire those attending to fulfill their leadership potential."
This event is made possible because of the generosity of Gary Fethke, dean; Carol Fethke, professor of economics; and the Undergraduate Program Office Tippie College of Business. Registration forms are available in the Undergraduate Program Office in Room W160 PBB. The registration fee is $10 for students and $15 for non-students.
