Clear!Blue Founder Speaks on Marketing Strategy Oct. 23
The presentation is co-sponsored by the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and the I-Envision entrepreneurial club as part of the Sandage Entrepreneurial Speaker Series.
In addition to telling his entrepreneurial start-up story, Smith will lead an interactive session during which participants will work through a marketing strategy step-by-step. He will teach the concept of what Clear!Blue calls "The Fifth Lane" strategic events (alongside the traditional "four lanes" of advertising, merchandising, direct marketing, and public relations), and how he places this concept at the foreground of every marketing project his company develops.
Smith graduated from the UI in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in marketing. After working for the Saturn Corporation, Smith returned to the UI for his MBA, which he received in 1996. Following graduation, Smith joined the DaimlerChrysler Corporation, and he started Clear!Blue in July 2000.
Clear!Blue has grown into an industry-leading strategic communications company with more than 30 employees and offices in Detroit, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Established in 1996, JPEC provides a unique opportunity for all UI students to take courses in entrepreneurship and earn a Certificate in Entrepreneurship in addition to their undergraduate major. The program is broad-based; undergraduate students from the Colleges of Business, Engineering, Health Sciences and Liberal Arts & Sciences can earn a Certificate in Entrepreneurship in addition to their undergraduate degrees; MBA students can pursue a concentration in entrepreneurship. JPEC partners with the Iowa community colleges to teach entrepreneurship programs statewide, and it offers several programs to foster the development of entrepreneurial skills in Iowa's youth.
