Entrepreneurship In Iowa To Be Discussed at Hughes Lecture Nov. 12
The University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) and Hills Bank and Trust Company are sponsoring the program, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Buchanan Auditorium, Room W10 in the Pappajohn Business Building. A networking reception precedes the program at 6 p.m. in the Andersen Galleria in W101 PBB.
The lecture features speakers Tom Bedell, chairman of the Board of Pure Fishing; Arthur Christoffersen, president of Corridor Management Company, LLC; and David Hensley, director of the UI JPEC.
Bedell will speak about the critical issues encountered in building Pure Fishing, headquartered in Spirit Lake, Iowa, into a successful global business. His presentation, "Entrepreneurial Leadership: Building the World's Best Fishing Tackle Company," will discuss how the second generation of this Iowa family business turned the company around and created the world's largest fishing tackle company.
Pure Fishing's global manufacturing, sales and marketing organization includes more than 1,100 dedicated coworkers and 15 regional operating centers worldwide. Through its portfolio of leading tackle brands including Abu Garcia(r), Berkley(r), Fenwick(r), Johnson(r), Mitchell(r), Red Wolf(r) and Spider(r) products, Pure Fishing is dedicated to helping anglers everywhere have more fun catching more fish.
Entrepreneurs will also hear about two funding opportunities available in Eastern Iowa. Christoffersen will discuss venture financing available through the recently created Iowa First Capital Fund, LP. Hensley will give an update on the Wellmark Venture Capital Fund. Application materials will be available.
