Nike Creative Director Speaks at Tippie College March 5
The speech, presented by the Tippie Leadership Association and the Graduate Marketing Association, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in Room S401 in the Pappajohn Business Building on the University of Iowa campus.
Tew's responsibilities at Nike include directing creative functions for public relations, marketing and retail for the Active Life division of Nike. In addition, Paul oversees the global development and direction of six marketing spaces that serve as think tanks for Nike's creative talent.
Tew attended Brigham Young University and started his career in 1994 at MTV in New York. As a designer for MTV, he worked on the brand positioning for several of the network's new programming concepts as well as creative and graphics for advertising, public relations and on-air spots. He left MTV to join a fledgling design studio in New York called Via, which had clients such as Fraser Papers, Intimate Brands and the New York Times.
Nike recruited Tew to serve as a lead designer for their apparel division in 1999. Since joining Nike, he has had several responsibilities in the apparel and brand design divisions.
Tew is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, has lectured on the business of design to various design groups and schools in the U.S. and Canada, and has done pro bono work for the Special Olympics, Boy Scouts of America and the Oregon Ballet. He draws inspiration from sources ranging from automotive design to film and couture.
