Baumgartner Named UI Career Services Director
Baumgartner will direct the UI Career Center, which helps students and alumni from the Tippie College of Business and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences explore their career interests and pursue full-time and internship employment opportunities. The staff helps students develop their resumes and job search and interviewing skills.
"I am pleased and excited to be returning to the State of Iowa and working at one of the nation's finest universities. This is an exciting time for the university and I look forward to assuming my responsibilities and making a contribution as assistant dean and director of career services," Baumgartner said.
Baumgartner has worked in the field of career development and placement since 1986. During that time, he directed the career centers at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York, Kent State in Ohio and Wartburg College in Iowa. Most recently, he operated PortfolioAcademy.com, a consulting and technology organization for higher education specializing in the development of electronic portfolios.
He received his doctorate in education from Iowa State University and a master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Baumgartner has taught courses and published many articles on career-related topics.
"We are very excited to have attracted someone of David's caliber to head Career Services. He has the expertise and experience to help us expand the services we offer our students and employers," said Nancy Hauserman, associate dean of the Undergraduate Program at the UI Tippie College of Business.
Baumgartner will assume the position on April 5. Wendy Ford has served as interim director of the Career Center since May 2003.
