Departments Honor Student Achievers
Marketing PhD student Himanshu Mishra received the M. Bhanu Murthy Memorial Prize for Excellence in Teaching from the Department of Marketing. This prize memorializes the late M. Bhanu Murthy, a student who died of leukemia in 1983 while in the marketing doctoral program, and has been awarded annually to a graduate student since 1984.
Economics Three students within the Economics Department have been chosen to receive awards in honor of their academic efforts. Lindsey Schneider, Dubuque, won the Max O. Lorenz Award; Bian Li, Ankeny, won the Howard Bowen Award; and Whitney Webb, Cedar Rapids, won the Frank Knight Award. Faculty commendation awards were also awarded to Michael Mucha, Crystal Lake, Illinois; Quinn Johnson, Urbandale; and Benjamin Lorenz, Cedar Rapids.
Management and Organizations The Department of Management and Organizations presented awards to three outstanding students to recognize their hard work and accomplishments. Kara Westercamp, Cedar Rapids, received the Management & Organizations Leadership Award; Christina Schmitt, Freeport, Illinois, was awarded the Human Resources Leadership Award; and Jason Goodchild, Spencer, was named the recipient of the Management & Organizations Undergraduate Research Award.
Accounting The Accounting Spring Awards Banquet provides the setting for a number of awards from the Department of Accounting. This year, Kira Selser, Davenport, received the Outstanding Accounting Senior Award, while Jason Less, Eldridge, received the Outstanding Accounting Junior Award.
Adam B. McClain, Rockwell City, and Bradley M. Downes, Davenport, received the Outstanding Achievement in Writing Award for Juniors and Seniors, respectively. Tom and Patrice Carroll are the sponsors of the junior award while Deere and Company is the sponsor of the senior award. Stephen F. Zinngrabe, Bettendorf, won the Writing Award for a Master of Accountancy, sponsored by Deere and Company.
Christine A. Wilkinson and Andrew T. Martin received Byron R. Ross Awards for Teaching Excellence (for Teaching Assistants) from the Department of Accounting. The endowed awards were established to recognize Byron R. Ross who, following his retirement from McGladrey & Pullen, served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Accounting for a number of years. The awards are based on the winners' strong commitment to education, as evidenced by teaching evaluations, pedagogical innovations and good citizenship.
This year, a new award was instituted in memory of Mary L. Collins, wife of Professor Dan Collins, Henry B. Tippie Research Chair in Accounting. Clayton L. Forester received the Mary L. Collins Doctoral Fellowship in Accounting in recognition of outstanding participation in accounting research workshops. In addition, an Outstanding Alumnus Award was presented to Kay L. Hegarty, BBA80, a managing director with RSM McGladrey, Inc. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
