Registration Continues for July 12-16 Youth Entrepreneur Camp
The camp, which is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 12-16 in the John Pappajohn Business Building, will give students in grades 4-6 a hands-on look at becoming an entrepreneur.
Participants will learn about entrepreneurship through both classroom discussion and practical experience. They will identify basic skills required of entrepreneurs, learn how to market a product or service, determine profit potential for a new venture and, by the end the week, develop plans to start their own businesses.
"This workshop helps participants take a kernel of an idea and start to develop it into a business plan. Presentations from successful entrepreneurs help them see the potential of their ideas," said JPEC director David Hensley. "Developing entrepreneurial skills is something that will be beneficial to them throughout their entire lives, whatever their career paths may be."
The user-friendly course materials are designed specifically for youth and include activities to stimulate interest in the various aspects of entrepreneurship. The camp is co-sponsored by JPEC and the Hills Bank and Trust Company.
Applications will be accepted until all spaces are filled. The cost is $120, which includes bus transportation for tours to business sites, class materials, snacks, lunches and a graduation reception. Several full scholarships are available for those in need.
