Sulentic Coordinates Replica Uniform Sales

Iowa football player Matt Roth plopped down $500 for the 1939 replica uniform he will wear during the Sept. 4 game against Kent State at Kinnick Stadium. Roth's uniform was among the 50 purchased on the first day the commemorative uniforms, including helmets, went on sale July 7.

Of the 120 Iowa uniforms that will be worn that day as part of the celebration of 75 years of Kinnick Stadium, 80 have been purchased. About 20 Kent State throwback uniforms, minus the helmets, also have been sold. They're on sale for $225.

"It's been absolutely crazy the way this project has taken off," said JOSEPH SULENTIC of the school's John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, which is coordinating the sale for the school's athletic department. "The most popular numbers, the ones that went the quickest, were 31, 29, 18 and 5." That's Roth, running back Jermelle Lewis, linebacker Chad Greenway and quarterback Drew Tate. Fans select five uniform numbers because their first preferences may be purchased.

The sales are being conducted on the Web Site "We've had orders from 14 different states," Sulentic said. Profit from the sales will go to the Kinnick Stadium renovation project and to the Entrepreneurial Center.
