Tippie College Winter Commencement Events To Be Held Dec. 17, 18
The College of Business undergraduate commencement ceremony will be simulcast live on the Web; archived copies of the webcast will be available for later viewing.
The School of Management Commencement Celebration will honor 74 graduates from the MBA-PM and Fulltime MBA programs. Julie Zielinski, vice president of marketing at Allsteel, will give the keynote address. The 21 graduates of the Executive Engineer Dual Master's Degree program will celebrate their graduation at a dinner to be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 17 in Des Moines at the Des Moines Club.
A total of 215 students are candidates for bachelor of business administration degrees. Lola Lopes, associate provost for undergraduate education at the UI, will confer the degrees at the undergraduate ceremony. Tippie College graduate Charlie Wittmack, the first Iowan to climb Mount Everest, will give the keynote address. Samantha Terrell, an accounting major from Cedar Rapids will be the student speaker.
Two candidates in the undergraduate program will graduate with highest distinction, while seven will graduate with high distinction and seven with distinction. Seven candidates will graduate with honors. Gary Fethke, dean of the Tippie College of Business, will preside over the ceremony.
In addition, two Tippie PhD students will be receiving doctorate degrees at the Graduate College ceremonies at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 at Hancher Auditorium. Amy Colbert will receive her PhD in Management and Organizations; her advisor is Professor Amy Kristof-Brown. Linnea Polgreen will receive her PhD in Economics and will be hooded by Professor Beth Ingram.
