Tippie College Commencement Ceremonies Set for May 13-14
Archived versions of the webcasts will available approximately one hour after the live commencements end. The Tippie School of Management's commencement will be held at Hancher Auditorium, with Phillip Jones, vice president for student services and dean of students, conferring 240 degrees.
Jim Nikrant, executive director of Lil' Drug Store Products Inc. will give the keynote address at the School of Management ceremony. Nikrant, who also serves as vice chairman of Corridor Management Co., left General Electric after 28 years to become an entrepreneur. Nikrant has been a partner in several successful companies and has served on the boards of directors of both local and national firms.
The School of Management ceremony also will be broadcast live on UITV at 10 a.m. and rebroadcast that day at 6 and 9 p.m.; on May 14 at midnight; and on May 16 at 8 p.m.
The Tippie College's Undergraduate commencement exercises will be held at Hancher Auditorium. Lola Lopes, UI associate provost for Undergraduate Education, will confer 510 degrees.
The keynote address will be given by UI football coach Kirk Ferentz, who is in his seventh year as Iowa's head football coach. He led the Hawkeyes to a 10-2 season in 2004, earning a Big Ten Championship and a Capitol One Bowl victory. In 2002, he was named Associated Press and The Walter Camp Football Foundation's Coach of the Year. He joined the Iowa staff after serving as assistant head coach and offensive line coach of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League.
Student speaker will be Cheryl Davenport, an economics major in the Tippie College of Business. Through her years at Iowa, she has been on the dean's list every semester. Her outstanding performance and activity record has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Hancher-Finkbine Undergraduate Student Medallion. A Hawkinson Institute of Business Finance Scholar, she held a three-year research fellowship, which gave her an opportunity to participate in an MBA market research project in Mexico. Davenport held leadership roles in several student organizations and served as a senator in UI Student Government. Davenport was also the 2004 UI Homecoming Queen.
There will be no live broadcast of the undergraduate ceremony on UITV, but a tape of the ceremony will be replayed at the following times: May 14 at 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.; May 15 at 4:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.; and May 18 at 4 p.m.
