An enrollment target for Ph.D. applications has been developed to ensure an optimum student/faculty ratio and allow resources to be concentrated within the six departments. Adhering to this target allows for mentoring of all Ph.D. students by tenured faculty throughout their academic career.
Responsibilities for Ph.D. recruitment, admissions, student services, and placement are divided among faculty Ph.D. directors and the college's Ph.D. coordinator. The Ph.D. directors work with their departmental admissions committee and determine admission decisions and funding recommendations. All Tippie College Ph.D. students receive financial support.
The Ph.D. coordinator manages the admissions process, providing each department with the necessary documentation for each applicant and following up each application in a timely manner. Her responsibilities include teaching assistant orientation, tuition and departmental funding and employment transactions, program and placement statistics, and student support and referral. This position is also focused on increasing student satisfaction with the information and services provided throughout each individual's program of study.
