Although he received his undergraduate degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., Fairfield native Matt Adam says he always planned to return to Iowa.

When he returned to attend graduate school at The University of Iowa, where he earned his MBA and law degrees, he never looked back.

“I knew I was going to stay in Iowa City,” said Adam, 34. “It’s one hour from where I grew up. This is where we always came when I was young.”

In addition to his work with local law firm Simmons Perinne Moyer Bergman, Adam is active with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa City Golf Association. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the UI Tippie School of Business.

Adam said he always has made a priority out of giving back to the community.

“The most important thing is to give back to the community and stay involved in whatever interests you,” he said.

For Adam, that means turning Iowa City into a place that’s appealing to residents young and old alike.

“I think Iowa City has everything you need in terms of arts, entertainment, and culture,” Adam said. “One thing about the Iowa City area I enjoyed as a young professional was the ability to get involved in the community. I believe young adults want to be involved in their communities as a means of both personal and professional development but they may not be aware of how to get involved or what opportunities exist."
