Assistant Director of Finance and Administration
BBA 2008 (Accounting)
Pinchot Institute of Conservation
We checked in with Blake Carpenter, BBA 2008, to see where his education has taken him so far:
"I worked on a short-term project for my father’s small business in Des Moines shortly after graduation in 2008. In September 2009, I made the move to Washington, D.C., where I began to work in the area of energy policy. My position at Pinchot began as a temporary role with 15-20 hours per week and shortly grew to a full-time offer. It was an intense on the-job training experience, but I enjoy my work considerably.
My accounting education at the University of Iowa was great. It prepared me for the work I do every day; however, it was rare when we would talk about nonprofit accounting practices in class. But I must give the Department of Accounting credit for preparing me to take on the challenges of a nonprofit organization. I definitely feel fulfilled in my work and I feel I am contributing to the social good at the same time."
